Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Promy

What is Promy?

+

Promy is a Discord server advertising bot that connects thousands of users from different communities through a network exchange system. When you bump your server, it gets advertised across all connected servers, and you receive ads from other servers in return. You can also create direct partnerships with other servers for permanent ad placement.

How does the network work?

+

When you bump your server, your advertisement is sent to every connected server's bump channel instantly. In exchange, you receive advertisements from other servers in your designated bump channel. The more servers that join, the more exposure everyone gets.

What are server partnerships?

+

Partnerships let you create direct relationships with other servers to exchange permanent ads in dedicated channels. Unlike regular bumps that rotate through the network, partnership ads stay visible in your partner's channel indefinitely. Use `/partner action:Partner with Server` to send a partnership request to another server.

How often can I bump my server?

+

You can manually bump your server every 3 hours. Premium users get access to auto-bump, which automatically bumps your server every 3 hours without any manual action required.

Is Promy free to use?

+

Yes, all core features of Promy are completely free, including partnerships. We offer optional premium upgrades for features like auto-bump, image/banner customizations and review notifications. But the basic advertising functionality is available to everyone at no cost.

What can I customize in my ad?

+

You can customize your server description up to 1000 characters, choose custom colors for your embed, and add optional banner images to make your advertisement stand out.

Why must my bump channel be visible to everyone?

+

The bump channel must be visible to `@everyone` so new members who join from advertisements can see other server ads. This creates a fair exchange and helps all servers in the network grow together. Partnership channels must also be visible to `@everyone` for the same reason.

What happens if I post inappropriate content?

+

Servers that post inappropriate content, spam, or violate our terms of service will be blacklisted from the network. We maintain a safe environment for all participating communities.

Can I leave reviews for other servers?

+

Yes, each user can leave one review per server. Reviews help other users discover quality communities and provide feedback to server owners.

The bot says "Application did not respond" when I use a command

+

This is a common Discord issue that occurs when there's a temporary connection problem between Discord and the bot. Try running the command again after a few seconds. If the issue persists, check our status page or try kicking and re-inviting the bot. You can also try using the command in a different channel.

Slash commands aren't showing up - what do I do?

+

This is a Discord caching issue. Try these steps: 1) Refresh Discord (Ctrl+R on desktop), 2) Restart Discord completely, 3) Check if the bot has "Use Application Commands" permission in Server Settings > Integrations, 4) If still not working, kick and re-invite the bot. Slash commands can take up to an hour to appear after inviting a bot.

The bot isn't responding to any commands

+

First, check if the bot is online (green status). If offline, check our status page. If online but not responding: 1) Verify the bot has proper permissions (Send Messages, Embed Links, Use Slash Commands), 2) Check if the bot is rate-limited in that channel, 3) Make sure you're using slash commands (/) not prefix commands, 4) Try the command in a different channel. If issues persist, join our support server.

Bot messages are being deleted immediately

+

This happens when another bot (like AutoMod, MEE6, Dyno, or Carl-bot) has auto-moderation rules that delete messages. Check your other bots' settings and either whitelist Promy or disable auto-delete in your bump/partnership channels. You can also create a role with "Manage Messages" permission and assign it to Promy to bypass some AutoMod rules.

I'm getting "Missing Permissions" or "Missing Access" errors

+

Promy needs specific permissions to function: Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files, Read Message History, and Add Reactions. Check Server Settings > Roles > Promy and ensure these permissions are enabled. Also verify channel-specific permissions - the bot might have server permissions but be blocked in specific channels. If using channel permissions, make sure Promy's role is allowed in your bump channel.

Commands work but embeds aren't showing properly

+

This usually means the bot is missing the "Embed Links" permission. Go to Server Settings > Roles > Promy and enable "Embed Links". Also check your personal Discord settings - if you have "Show website preview info from links pasted into chat" disabled in User Settings > Text & Images, you won't see embeds. Some mobile clients also have issues displaying embeds if on poor connections.

Why can't I mention @everyone in my server description?

+

Discord automatically blocks @everyone and @here mentions in bot messages to prevent spam. This is a Discord platform limitation, not a Promy restriction. Instead of using @everyone, simply write "everyone" without the @ symbol. Role mentions are also blocked in advertisements to maintain network safety.

The bot keeps going offline randomly

+

While Promy maintains 99.9% uptime, brief disconnections can occur due to Discord API issues, hosting restarts, or updates. Check our status page for any ongoing issues. If the bot is frequently offline for your server specifically, it might have been kicked or banned - check your server's audit log. Discord also has occasional platform-wide outages that affect all bots.

Images/banners aren't uploading or displaying

+

Make sure your image is: 1) Under 8MB file size, 2) In a supported format (PNG, JPG, GIF), 3) Hosted on a stable platform (Discord CDN, Imgur, etc.), 4) Using a direct image link ending in .png, .jpg, or .gif. Discord sometimes blocks certain image hosts. If using Discord attachment links, they may expire after 24 hours. For best results, use Imgur or Discord CDN links.
